Department of History
Textbook Order Policy (3/07)

1) Deadlines for ordering textbooks are as follows:

Quarter
Deadline
  Autumn May 25
  Winter November 1
  Spring February 1
  Summer May 1

2)  Instructors (including Faculty, Lecturers, and Small Section Leaders) should place their own textbook orders on-line. Orders may be placed with the University Bookstore or with Student Book Exchange (SBX). Orders placed with the University Bookstore will be shared among several campus area bookstores. An instructor placing an order with SBX must decide whether to reserve it exclusively for SBX or to have it shared with other campus area bookstores.

The Department of History does not endorse any one bookstore, but instructors may elect to place book orders with one store or to share them among many stores.

To place an order with the University Bookstore, visit http://ohiostate.bkstore.com/ and click on Faculty that will take you to a login page. There you will find instructions for ordering books on-line or downloading an Excel order form that can be submitted by e-mail. You might be required to register contact information upon first use.

To place an order with SBX, visit http://sbx-osu.com and click on Faculty Book Order.  Be sure to indicate if you want the order placed at SBX only or shared with other bookstores.

3)  Once you have ordered your books, print a copy of your order and give it to the Front Desk Coordinator (Jan Thompson) so she has the information on file for students.

4) Early each quarter, the Front Desk Coordinator will send an e-mail to all instructors indicating textbook ordering deadlines and providing links to the two on-line ordering sites. She will also send periodic reminders to instructors who do not submit copies of book orders.

5) DESK COPIES: The Front Desk Coordinator will order desk copies.  If you need desk copies, send an e-mail to thompson.38@osu.edu indicating the author, title, publisher, and ISBN and the number of desk copies needed. Place this order no later that one month before the start of the quarter. The Front Desk Coordinator will send you an e-mail confirming she has ordered the desk copies.

6) RTAP/ETEP:  The RTAP/ETEP Graduate Associate (Dulles 220) handles all orders for RTAP and ETEP volumes. There is a separate, paper order form for such readers. The Graduate Associate will assist instructors in completing the order form and will provide a copy of completed forms to the Front Desk Coordinator. All RTAP and ETEP orders are placed exclusively with SBX. Deadlines for RTAP/ETEP orders will be announced in a timely fashion to instructors in appropriate courses.
